Came across this sometime last month, but only just remembered it when skinny mentioned about climbing and subsequently falling off a tree in trying to save a dumb kitten…

When I think about it, that’s one heck of a climb by the bear!

Cat Chases Bear Up Tree

On June 4 a black bear wandered into a West Milford, New Jersey, back yard, was confronted by a 15-pound (7-kilogram) tabby cat … and fled up a neighbor's tree. Hissing at the base of the tree, Jack the clawless cat kept the bear at bay for about 15 minutes, then ran him up another tree after an attempted escape.

On a side note, what an utterly miserable weekend it has been… the FIFA 2006 world cup has come to an end for me… a truly miserable end … Argentina is out, England is out and Brazil is out!!! All in the same weekend… a major triple blow. None of the teams left are teams I support, so this is one World Cup to be well and truly forgotten. Best to forget football for a while and drown myself in something else. The sooner the better too… *sigh* At least maybe now I can revert back to "normal" sleeping hours.
